Sociology became an independent discipline during the first industrial revolution, but we cannot forget its pre-modern origin: from Platonic ontology, to Aristotelian realism; from the historiography of the Latins, to the theories of Ibn Kaldun. To overcome the fragmentation of the specialized knowledge of modernity, the 21st century sociologist search among the ancient philosophical roots, going beyond the commonplace of post-modernity, re-establishing an ontology of the post-post-modern social world; investigating the essence sui generis of the human relationship. In this way, pre-sociological social philosophy becomes an essential tool of palingenesis of Sociology in order to understand the new interactions between human and non-human. The society of the 21st century will be able to overcome the post-modern breakdown, if it is co-assisted by the horizons of meaning constructed by a dialectic between philosophy and sociology.
