The art of dispatriation: Italian influences in the fiction of Juan Rodolfo Wilcock (from Tommaso Landolfi to Alberto Arbasino) · Juan Rodolfo Wilcock, who emigrated to Italy from Buenos Aires, was a passeur between his native and European cultures: he contributed to the dissemination of Argentine literature in Italy as a translator and as a publicist, while his narrative, poetic and dramaturgical work broke down the conventions of realistic-mimetic representation by looking to the models of European and American modernism. Less investigated is his relationship with contemporary Italian literature, from which he drew useful elements for the development of his unclassifiable poetics. The paper aims to study the motivations that oriented Wilcock’s decision to translate some 20th-century Italian novels into Spanish and to examine the influence exercised on the Argentinean by Landolfi and Arbasino, among the few Italian narrators, along with Flaiano, Palazzeschi and Frassineti, to whom he dedicated reviews and praise.

Abstract
The paper aims to study the motivations that oriented Wilcock’s decision to translate some 20th-century Italian novels into Spanish and to examine the influence exercised on the Argentinean by Landolfi and Arbasino, among the few Italian narrators, along with Flaiano, Palazzeschi and Frassineti, to whom he dedicated reviews and praise.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
