The case study focuses on iugeral nets of the acquaeducts in the Aniene valley near Castel Madama (Rome), showing in some areas accordance between iugeral direction and modulus and the modern rural land partition. The persistence of this net has been interpreted as the relic of the roman land division through more than 2000 years. Following these theoretical premises, the iugeral nets have been proposed as a model for landscape design. A new archaeological restraint, based on the iugerum, has been proposed and accepted in the variante generale of the P.R.G. of Castel Madama to conceive a new archaeological park. An international workshop (Sapienza-University of Miami, Castel Madama-Rome, Jan. 23rd- Apr. 22nd 2008) experimented architectural and landscape design based on iugeral orientation/modulus and appropriate distance from the acquaeducts. A new archaeological park has been conceived using archaeological models and sustainable architectures in accordance with the local Agenda 21 (Provincia di Roma), following the European Landscape Convention .
