In this paper, we propose a textual emendation for Historia animalium, 7, 2, 582b4. In that passage, Aristotle is discussing the human menstrual cycle and states that in most cases it takes place every third lunar month, according to the extant text preserved by the manuscripts. Some 19th century editors of Aristotle’s Historia animalium already suggested that the passage is likely to be in need of correction, but the most recent editions do not hypothesize any textual corruption. We propose a simple emendation by means of which the whole passage becomes intelligible and meaningful.

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a textual emendation for Historia animalium, 7, 2, 582b4. In that passage, Aristotle is discussing the human menstrual cycle and states that in most cases it takes place every third lunar month, according to the extant text preserved by the manuscripts. Some 19th century editors of Aristotle’s Historia animalium already suggested that the passage is likely to be in need of correction, but the most recent editions do not hypothesize any textual corruption. We propose a simple emendation by means of which the whole passage becomes intelligible and meaningful.File in questo prodotto:
