Hegel invokes contradiction as the guiding principle of his logic and his speculative philosophical proposal as such. Departing from the confines of Kantian philosophy, which he perceives as intellectually abstract and tied to formal-rational thought, Hegel proposes a system of thought in which contradiction serves as a fulcrum, opening a new logical space that redefines the concept of logic itself. This essay examines Hegel9s position. It does so by drawing on Goethe's thought, analysing his Naturphilosophie and his endorsement of the concept of life. Moreover, it argues that Goethe9s thought played a pivotal role in the genesis of Hegel9s philosophical proposal.
