In Apulia, where a vast architectural heritage characterizing the territory has been preserved over the centuries, vernacular architecture finds expression through the so-called “masserie”, middle-class stone farmhouses built between the XVI and the XVII centuries, marking the region’s agricultural landscape. This contribution aims to shed light on the case of masseria Solìto, a rural building in the modern outskirts of Taranto, significantly important for its topographic condition. Masseria Solìto is located in a district named after it, which has grown out of all proportion as a result of the Seventies’ speculative building and is now completely engulfed by the new suburbs. The research work has been carried out with a critical eye towards the irrational city growth, indifferent to the structural characters of the territory and its archeological, architectural, and historic cornerstones. Through a conscious restoration project, the aim was to try and implement architectural recovery strategies, to demonstrate that the valorisation of the existing heritage is able to reconnect the contemporary city to its history.
