The main purpose of this contribution is to claim that all the attempts to find balance between meritocracy and democracy can only succeed if these two objectives are understood not as alternative concepts but as complementary and co-functional terms, both objectives of contemporary societies cooperating in order to realize a diverse social inclusion.
