The contribution is part of an investigation into the incidence of oral information in the composition of Pausanias' Periegesis of Greece. The balance of this incidence, in the description of Pausanias' journey to Olympia, appears nourished and significant. In the complex reconstruction of Elis’ myth-history and history present in Books V and VI, there is a fusion of erudition and listening to the opinions, versions and interpretations of guides, exegetes and scholars met locally, interlocutors in an interactive enquiry based on autopsy. What is proposed here is an analysis of VI 19, 1-5, where, with regard to the two bronze chambers of the treasure of the Sicions on a terrace of the Altis, all the elements of a collective practice of conjecture and hypothesis are present, in which Pausanias is able to have the last word thanks to personal erudition. On the whole, the strong level of preservation of memory, particularly oral memory, typical of the environment of the great Panhellenic sanctuary is fully confirmed for the age of the Antonines.

Abstract
On the whole, the strong level of preservation of memory, particularly oral memory, typical of the environment of the great Panhellenic sanctuary is fully confirmed for the age of the Antonines.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
