Abstract
The expansion of the industrial production triggered deep economic and social changes in Abruzzo towards the end of the nineteenth century. Despite the lack of numbers of real and proper “industrial areas” and a constant and continuous growth over time, the evolution of the rural and the entrepreneurial contexts affected the historical centres and the expansion of new urban spaces. ollowing the Unification of Italy, in the specific, the passage of the Bologna-Foggia railway along the coast sketched a dense network of brick manufacturing which opened new prospects related to the urban and economic expansion of Castellamare Adriatico and Pes cara: the former related to the agricultural productivity and the latter totally to the property – for centuries imposed by the property of the stronghold. Buildings and factory constructions that have shaped forms and images of urban context such as that of Pescara achieving great importance due to their location within the most recent territorial protection areas are, however, distant from the common idea of ‘National Landmark’ and community belonging. The recognition of the historical and aesthetic qualities of the industrial archeology and of the twentieth century construction is complex. However, it employs a main role in the interpretation and identification of the original groups and places which identify dynamic and multifarious realities, such as that in Pescara, which is difficult to contextualize in the ordinary planning and where the usual control instruments are inadequate and seldom applicableI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
