The contribution proposes the results of a research carried out during the process of securing of the church of the Saints Marciano and Nicandro in the years following the 2009 earthquake. The participation in the L'Aquila reconstruction sites represents an opportunity not only to approach and deepen knowledge on the traditional construction of this particular area of the Abruzzo region through the analysis of the architectural and urban palimpsest, but also to carry out a survey of indirect sources, archival documentation, studies and bibliographic information relating to the reality of L'Aquila in view of an appropriate recovery of the fabric of the historic center of the capital and of those architectural emergencies which, like the church of the Saints Marciano and Nicandro, await to be preserved and returned to the community.
