The contribution proposes a reconnaissance of the historic centers damaged by the Irpinia earthquake in 1980, the reconstruction of which is still underway. Among the numerous cases of abandonment and relocation of the damaged towns, some reconstructions try to relate to the pre-existing ones. Among the various attempts, the recent recovery of the historic center of Cairano comes close to the contemporary theory and practice of restoration; the other cases described, Lioni, Teora, Conza della Campania, Calitri and Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi instead represent examples of different approaches to pre-existences which stand out from previous reconstructions of the twentieth century and which represent the starting point for important methodological and operational evolutions in the field of conservation.

Abstract
The contribution proposes a reconnaissance of the historic centers damaged by the Irpinia earthquake in 1980, the reconstruction of which is still underway. Among the numerous cases of abandonment and relocation of the damaged towns, some reconstructions try to relate to the pre-existing ones. Among the various attempts, the recent recovery of the historic center of Cairano comes close to the contemporary theory and practice of restoration; the other cases described, Lioni, Teora, Conza della Campania, Calitri and Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi instead represent examples of different approaches to pre-existences which stand out from previous reconstructions of the twentieth century and which represent the starting point for important methodological and operational evolutions in the field of conservation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
