In sports environments, children may be at risk for maltreatment and abuse. An overview of the national and international prevention and counter-phenomenon initiatives is provided to summarize best practices aimed at ensuring a safe environment for playing sports. The best practices from the document analysis refer to training and awareness-raising interventions, recruitment measures for sports operators, subscription to a code of ethics and conduct, reporting procedures, general supervision and security, and the establishment of interdisciplinary working groups. Initiatives have often been limited to specific interventions or sporting sectors, highlighting the need for joint and shared actions.
