Abstract
Interpretations of the dialogue between Socrates and the personified Laws, in Crito, have mostly placed the emphasis on the contractual aspect of the relationship be- tween the two: the punctual respect of the contract established between Socrates and the laws of the city would be the basis of the philosopherʼs decision to fully accept the death sentence that the court decreed following pre-established rules and procedures. This pa- per proposes an interpretation of the Platonic construction of the dialogue between Soc- rates and the Laws in a sarcastic key. Plato brings into play Socratesʼ acquiescence in the ‹domain of the laws› because he identifies in this last formulation the product of the regimeʼs self-referential propaganda, a slogan exploitable of the restored democracy. Faced with the development of a conformity of thought, implemented by the same pro- tagonists of the democratic restoration who sentenced Socrates to death in a process with a clearly political matrix, Plato essentially replies «Socrates felt the same way, he was one of you».I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
