This article examines two understudied illuminated manu- scripts in the Barberini collection (Barb. lat. 52 and 563), highlighting the production of illuminations in Rome during the second half of the thirteenth century. The miniatures are considered in relation to their cultural context, a milieu characterized by the presence of Italian illuminators’ workshops under the influence of French style. The contribution sheds new light on the history of illuminated manuscripts in central Italy at that time.
