The collection of Giosia III Acquaviva D’AragonaDuke of Atri · In the northernmost region of the kingdom of Naples, in the town of Atri, Duke Giosia III Acquaviva d’Aragona built a gallery in the second half of the 17th century, frescoed by Farelli and decorated with paintings from his collection. The only evidence of the collection is entrusted to two inventories, the analysis and comparison of which reveal Giosia’s interest in the major centers of artistic production, namely Naples, Rome, and Venice, cities that had prolifc political, cultural and commercial contacts with the Abruzzi.
