The area between Marina del Sole and Torino di Sangro village revealed how the transition between land and sea is an area with a plurality of interdependent features. A patchwork of project opportunities that often fall outside the ordinary planning of coastal areas. This is precisely the reason why Workshop B of the Summer School 2023 addressed the issues with the aim of confronting architecture and urbanism with the interscalarity necessary to hold together landscape, environmental and hydrogeomorphological issues as well. And it is from these considerations that the issue of the Via Verde Costa dei Trabocchi bicycle path was addressed, in a historical context that, in recent years, has seen urban and suburban bicycle networks assume extraordinary prominence.

Abstract

The area between Marina del Sole and Torino di Sangro village revealed how the transition between land and sea is an area with a plurality of interdependent features. Chief among these are the porosity of the borders, coastal erosion, extraordinary landscape richness and environmental peculiarities.

Land and Sea Transition was the title of the 2023 Summer School, evoking the central theme: the transition between land and sea occurs in a critical space, where ongoing transformations witness the current environmental crisis. Laboratory B, coordinated by Professors Antonio Alberto Clemente and Carlo Prati, with the collaboration of PhD candidates Stella Lolli and Angelica Nanni, focused on studying two areas: Ap3 – Marina del Sole and Ap4 – Torino di Sangro village. The territorial project addressed two main topics: the Via Verde of the Costa dei Trabocchi and the possible design scenarios to develop along and across this light infrastructural spine. The chosen approach followed a hybrid, trans-scalar, and open methodology aimed at defining a research and experimentation path that bridges the disciplines of urban planning and architectural composition.
