The effects of Cd, on PHA stimulated proliferation and cytokine release from human PBMC in presence of Se, Zn and Cu salts were the object of this study. 10-4 and 10-5 M Cd exerted an inhibitory action, while Cu was slightly immunotoxic and 10-4 and 10-5 M. Se and Zn exerted a stimulatory effect; 10-6 M salts did not exert significant immune effects. Moreover, 10-4 and 10-5 M Se or Zn counteracted the immunotoxic effects of 10-5 M Cd possibly with different metabolic mechanisms.
