Seismic events pose significant risks to urban areas, especially those with historical significance. Therefore, assessing the vulnerability of such sites is crucial for understanding the potential consequences and supporting informed decision-making on the adoption of effective vulnerability and risk mitigation strategies. The present work explores the potential benefits of different seismic retrofitting strategies in reducing the buildings' damage levels. To this purpose, a large-scale seismic vulnerability assessment methodology is applied to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of Campotosto, a city of historical relevance that suffered significant damage during the 2009 and 2016 seismic events that struck the province of L’Aquila in Italy. The findings of this work will enhance our understanding of seismic vulnerability in historical centres and provide valuable insights for decision-makers and practitioners involved in risk mitigation and management.
