The emergence of Additive Manufacturing, as a direct manufacturing process, in combination with other prominent trends such as servitisation, personalisation and prosumption, is leading companies to rethink where and how they conduct their man ufacturing activities. The aim of the research is to investigate how Industry 4.0 af fects quality management of products and processes considering the main benefits and barriers to the implementation of AM in the wood-furniture industry. An analy sis of perception between “traditional” and “3D companies” in the wood-furniture sector has been performed. Data were collected using a structure questionnaire sur vey performed on a sample of 234 Italian companies. The research has highlighted how among the main advantages of using 3D printing, companies perceive the ones related to the reduction in time to define technical specifications of products, in time for prototyping and for production. As for the disadvantages, the research shows that no relevant ones are perceived. In conclusion the results of the research seem to confirm that 3D printing is a strong growing phenomenon, already quite widespread in Italy, which has brought changes in business processes.
