Archaeological Evidence Dating to the Augustan and Early Roman Period From the Chora of Cyrene · For the chora of Cyrene and the surrounding territories in general, the Augustan age represents a crucial moment of reorganization, including phenomena of ri-monumentalisation in Roman style of some villages, due to viritan distributions, of logistical organization of the Legio iii Cyrenaica, of the first real planning of the limes. The paper is presenting several examples, starting from Cyrene’s necropolis and rock-cut sanctuaries and then moving on to the rest of the chora, in order to emphasize those elements which may be useful in building a picture of these early Roman phases in the territory. Leaving the territory closest to Cyrene and using those road axes that act as a supporting skeleton to travel across the various terraces of the Djebel, the chora is vast and fertile. In this context, there are very interesting and monumental villages, with a moment of ‘pseudo-urban’ organisation, which dates back to the Augustan age.

Abstract
In this context, there are very interesting and monumental villages, with a moment of ‘pseudo-urban’ organisation, which dates back to the Augustan age.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
