The Myth of Heracles and Augeas in Pindar’s Olympian 10 · The present study investigates the diegetic and mythopoietic dimensions of Pindar’s Olympian 10, with a primary focus on the struggle between Heracles and Augeas (involving the Moliones). We examine the chronological arrangement of this myth, paralleling it with the foundation of the Olympic Games in Olympian 3. Attention is also given to the myth’s intricate thematic architecture, specifically its moral ordering. Through the agency of Zeus, Time, and the Moirai, Heracles is established within a narrative and thematic framework that casts him in a pivotal, exemplary role: the righteous avenger of injustice and the fateful founder of the Games.
