Over the past years profound changes in the public sentiment and policy environment suggest the beginning of a new era with reversal attitudes towards globalization. Deglobalization which is commonly defined as the process of decreasing interdependence among nations has recently become the focus of scholarly attention with particular interest on the deglobalization consequences. A significant question related with deglobalization is how innovation ecosystems adapt in such a new challenging environment. Within this context, the primary objective of this paper is to evaluate the role of deglobalization on the firm's eco-innovation performance directly and indirectly through its moderating effect on eco-innovation spillovers while considering the presence of cosmo-localism. Using a spatially-lagged X model (SLX) for a sample of 63 countries over the period 1990-2023 we shed light on the detrimental effects of deglobalization on eco-innovation performance, emphasizing at the same time the importance of cosmo-localism in terms of alleviating these consequences.
