African countries suffer from the world’s highest levels of poverty, low life expectancy, diseases, and poor economic growth (Bhorat & Naidoo, 2019). Against such a background, some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and agencies are providing services, such as healthcare, water supplies, and sanitation and do often useful jobs in this regard (Murray, 2011). They play a critical role in addressing global challenges, particularly in developing countries, where resource constraints and infrastructural de-ficiencies are prevalent. With a commitment to fostering sustainable de-velopment, NGOs bridge gaps among communities, governments and in-ternational entities. The United Nations Sustainable Goals (SDGs) underscore the necessity of equitable growth, sustainable resource use, and environmental protec-tion (SDG report, 2023). In this context, NGOs serve as catalysts in all sectors. This paper presents the preliminary results of a still ongoing re-search project aimed at highlighting the transformative potential of NGOS in shaping communities. In particular, we focus on governance and accountability practices in an ongoing case study.
