Axes de développement et prospectives pour une histoire du christianisme

From the beginning of Christianity, the historical dimension has been an essential phenomenon in its development. Christians immediately felt the need to tell their story and the way they did so has undergone fundamental evolutions in line with those that historiography has faced over the centuries. Writing the history of Christianity therefore means taking note that it is first of all, beyond the self-presentation and the difficulties arising from the divisions that have occurred throughout its history, a history of the baptised, that is, of individuals who, within a community dynamic, sought to understand how to be faithful to the Gospel of Jesus. And it is perhaps in this direction, rather than imitating historiographical fashions, that the research has to move: not to tell the story of this or that Christian confession or create an artificial ecumenical story, but to tell the story of Christians as such, with their riches and their miseries, proper to all those who make their ways in the humility of human history
