Slowing down the breathing rhythm induces major changes at the neurophysiological and behavioral level, in turn affecting the state of consciousness. Here, we investigate the relationship between nasal vault stimulation, metabolic brain activity and state of consciousness subjectively perceived, through the comparison of the effects elicited by a slow breathing rhythm in a number of different conditions (via nasal o mouth breathing, with or without an artificial mechanical stimulation of the nasal vault). Results show a pattern of influence of the consciousness state of the participants paired by a number of functional connectivity modifications involved in perception, attention and episodic memory.
