Taking into account Guido Baggio’s Filosofia e patologia in D.F. Wallace. Solipsismo, noia, alienazione… e altre cose (poco) divertenti (2022), this essay looks closely at David Foster Wallace’s work with the aim of assessing the entanglement between authorial life and literary issues which seems to be crucially at stake in the case of the American writer. By pursuing this aim, it reflects on the main topics of Baggio’s volume – such as pathology, depression, and solipsism – in order to assess the vital function of literary writing for the establishment of an authentic communication among human beings.
